Greetings Blacksmithpeople. I just joined CBA recently, though I think I might have belonged back in ‘91 or so. I started attending some classes in Murphys a short time ago, mostly to reconnect with some people in the community and got the bug again after a hiatus of about ten years while I waited for my son to be old enough to leave alone in the house by himself (I’m a single Dad). Anyway, I was trying to get the shop straightened up a bit and came across an old Buffalo Forge #19A shear that I had never really used. I have even forgotten when or where I got the thing. It needs a pretty solid mount so I made up a base that I can clamp into my leg vice to get sufficient support for the thing, and have begun to use it when I have to cut up multiple pieces of small bar stock. A few days ago I also used the shear to rough cut a 1 1/2" diameter circle out of 1/8" flat stock. It really works great! I would like to find some info on it, mainly concerning what it’s rated capacity is for shearing and cutting bar stock so that I don’t screw it up by exceeding it’s design parameters. It appears that it will accept up to 1/2" diameter round stock but I have no idea what gauge flat stock it will shear.

I have looked at what is available on line at the vintage machine web site but cannot find my shear listed in the general line catalog. Any info would be appreciated.
