What can I do to contribute to the website?
The CBA website is entirely created by its members so you may contribute whatever you like.
You may consider contributing:
Photos for the Gallery or Home page
Articles for the Techniques section
Photos from CBA events.
News of interest to the blacksmithing world
Interesting blacksmithing links
Reviews of books or videos in the library
Do I have to be a CBA member to contribute to the website?
The CBA website is available to the internet public and anyone with the interest is invited to
contribute material.
That said the gallery only accepts the work of members and invited demonstrators
(who are made members when they demonstrate). If you wish to contribute something of
benefit to the membership you are welcome, but if you are that interested you should consider joining us
so you can attend our events and receive our excellent magazine.
How can I get photos of my work in the gallery?
The best way to assure your work will get in the gallery quickly is to submit it in the proper format.
This is easy to do and you can download a sample or follow this tutorial.
If you can't manage that then email the webmaster your photos in whatever format you have them.
Images should be at least 500 pixels in their large dimension. Requests to scan photos
or slides or pull photos off of other websites can usually be accommodated but they may take a while.
The fastest way to get your work up and to have the greatest control over it is to follow the tutorial.
How can I get photos of my work on the home page?
Photos for the home page rotation are selected from the gallery photos. They are selected based
on the interest of the metalwork and the quality of the photo. Both are important so send your best photos
of your best work.
I am organizing a CBA event. How can I publicize it on the website?
E-mail your information to the webmaster as early as possible. The webmaster is not a copywriter
so you must send the material written as you wish it to appear on the website. It should be in a Word
document, a .txt file, or copied into the body of the email. The webmaster will handle the HTML formatting.
How can I contribute an article to be published on the website?
E-mail your article and photos to the webmaster. If you have it in HTML form send that too, but it isn't necessary.
I know someone who would be great to interview for the Podcast what should I do?
Record an interview with them. A digital Mp3 recording is best, but we can handle cassettes or audio cd's as well.
Mp3 players with the ability to record can be had for as little as $30. If you are conducting a
phone interview try using TRx Phone recorder it records phone calls using your computer's
modem and it comes in a free version.
I found something wrong with the website. What should I do?
E-mail the webmaster and be as specific and clear as possible. Make sure to cite the full URL of the page.
Who is the webmaster and what does he do?
The current CBA webmaster is Whitney Potter, a professional smith from Sebastopol.
The webmaster is charged with the running of the website. He organizes and uploads new material.
He converts documents supplied by the members to HTML and posts them to the website.
He does not write copy. If you want something on the website you must submit the text as you wish it to appear.
What is the web site publishing schedule?
Materials received by the first of the month will generally be posted by the 15th.
Materials received after the first will be published the following month.
How do I contact the webmaster?
The webmaster can be reached by e-mail at webmaster@calsmith.org. If you are reading this you can use e-mail.
There is no reason to phone the webmaster. If you need to send regular mail
(cd's of photos for example) the address is:
